How to Win "7 Wonders" | “Mr. Resource” Strategy
Hey It’s Ty with Hardy House Games teaching you how to win “7 Wonders” so everyone can hate you. I’m assuming you already know how to play. If not, go grab a rule book, brush up on game play, then come back to learn how to win. In this article, I’m covering the resource builder strategy (a.k.a. “Mr. Resource”). This is a fool proof strategy, so even if you’re an idiot you can win with this. I have a much more interesting YouTube video on this strategy, but if you’re the kind of person who likes to see it in words, here ya go:
1st age: Only build resource cards! Plus one military! If you get a crappy hand with no resource cards, build a commercial structure, that’s the yellow one. Or, If your wonder has at least 10 victory points in it, build it. If you don’t start now, don’t start at all! One wonder building per age is good.
2nd age: Keep building resources when you can and build structures that get you tons of money. Build one military and wonder. It would be best if you have at least one of every resource by this point. You may have to build a forum or caravansery, in fact you should have one of those. It’s like the “best resource” card out there.
3rd age: You should be set up for any card! You have the resources and riches. now evaluate every hand and make sure you are getting about 7 to 8 victory points per card you lay down. My favorite is the palace. Keep track of those guild cards, if you notice that another player could get 10 points from it, you might want to consider playing it even if it only gets you 5 or 6.
Simple tips during the game:
Watch what your friends are making and waste cards that help them by using it on your wonder. Don’t laugh or show them while you do it.
Don’t do the science route unless you have babylon, it’s just too risky. People mess your game up all the time.
Never pay for resources, people pay you
Don’t show boat your military, be a sneaky fighter who wins. You’re not winning if you have negative points, but you also don’t want more than 4 military cards.
Don’t grab a coin or two from the middle while everyone is setting up for the next age. That’s cheating, and cheaters win when they get away with it.
Every time you play a card that someone else wanted, that’s a win.
Remember, you’re playing against others. It’s not about you getting as many points as possible as much as it is about stopping others from getting lots of points.
It’s like this. Imagine having two guild cards in your hand, One of them gives you 8 points and the other gives you 6. But you notice that the lower scoring card is worth 10 for your neighbor and the higher scoring card is really only worth 4 to him and anyone else. You might want to consider missing out on two points so everyone else can miss out on 6.
What tips do you have that helped you win?
